Center for User Experience Director

JOB SUMMARY:
This is an amazing opportunity to champion the university vision of a welcoming, empowered, and inclusive community. The Director of the Center for User Experience leads a team of professionals to advance the role of inclusive design in meeting the needs of students, faculty, and staff. The director provides oversight, guidance, advocacy, and support to the university to improve the accessibility and usability of existing and emerging digital experiences and technologies.

The Center for User Experience resides within Academic Technology, a department within the Division of Information Technology (DoIT). DoIT Academic Technology (AT) consists of over 60 dedicated professionals that engage and work closely with university partners and collaborators to provide technology and services that support the teaching and learning missions of the university (https://at.doit.wisc.edu/).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and directs the implementation of strategic plans for enterprise information technology (IT) function(s), program(s), or service(s) to ensure resources are utilized to provide effective administrative, research, outreach, and/or instructional information technology services. May directly manage IT services.
  • 20% Directs strategic information technology planning initiatives and establishes objectives for the institution to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, staffing resources in alignment with the strategic plan
  • 5% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives
  • 10% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 10% May develop and audit institutional budgets and/or financials
  • 20% Serves as a liaison representing the interests of the institution to internal and external stakeholders
  • 5% Advises institutional or divisional leadership on information technology operations and business models
  • 10% May perform manager functions
  • 20% Collaborates with university partners to improve the user experience for students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders through inclusive, accessible design and education throughout the enterprise

EDUCATION:
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications include:
-Experience managing and developing a group of professional staff (five years preferred)
-Direct experience with digital accessibility or user experience design within an IT ecosystem
-Knowledge of digital accessibility and/or user experience standards, guidelines, or requirements
-Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, exercise influence, and build consensus and partnerships in a large, complex, and collaborative enterprise
-Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills

WORK TYPE:
Full Time: 100%

This position is eligible for any of the following: 100% remote work; partial remote work; or fully on-site. Remote work requires an approved remote work agreement (RWA) agreement. An RWA requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a university provided computer.

APPOINTMENT TYPE, DURATION:
Ongoing/Renewable

SALARY:
Minimum $125,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
