Public Information Planner I (On-Call Planner)

Boulder County Community Planning & Permitting Department is seeking to hire a Public Information Planner I (On-Call Planner) to join a team committed to providing the best in public service and ensuring a viable, sustainable, and safe future. The position is on the Code Compliance and Public Information Team, which works collaboratively under the direction of the Planning Division Manager and Deputy Director.

This is an entry-level, highly visible position that has daily interaction with members of the public, various design professionals, and other county staff. The position performs a range of work in land use planning, development review, and code compliance and primarily responds to public inquiries about development and the Land Use Code.

 This is a full-time, benefited position. This position will work Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. This position will work out of 2045 13th Street, Boulder, CO, 80302. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is  exempt. 
 
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
 
Hiring Salary Range: $58,704.00 - $71,628.00 Annually 
Classification Salary Range: $58,704.00 - $84,552.00 Annually 
 
Tentative Hiring Timeline:

Examples of Duties
  1. Assists members of the public, often serving as their first point of contact, by answering inquiries by providing information concerning county regulations and permit requirements as well as policies, procedures, and programs
  2. Researches prior departmental decisions and actions applicable to specific requests
  3. Assist with planning research, building permit review, other background and information support
  4. Provides information related to the Boulder County Land Use Code, the Building Code, the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan, and other County policies and regulations to the public, other County staff, and various outside professionals in a clear, concise manner
  5. Creates informational documents and other guidance for use by the public, which explains departmental procedures
  6. Organizes and participates in public meetings on various land use and zoning topics
  7. Utilizes County-specific database and other software to maintain files and docket related information
  8. Conducts pre-application meetings with potential applicants to identify appropriate planning processes for proposed development, provide site-specific information, and answer any questions the applicant may have
  9. Processes development review applications and permit reviews as necessary
  10. May be reassigned to other duties during disasters, emergency situations, or other events
  11. Performs related duties as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in planning or related field, such as but not limited to landscape architecture, civil engineering, geography, real estate development, or environmental policy or planning, AND one year of professional experience in urban, rural, regional, transportation, parks or community planning, or other related field.
OR
Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of nine college credits in planning related coursework and three years of professional experience in urban, rural, regional, transportation, parks or community planning, or other related field.
