Professional Learning and Innovation Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA)

Visions In Education is seeking a Single or Multiple Subject Credentialed Teacher who will work on special assignment as a Professional Learning and Innovation Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA). The Professional Learning and Innovation TOSA is responsible for supporting the implementation of professional learning opportunities and equitable, robust curriculum and instructional support. This position will work closely with the Director of Student Services, Student Services Manager, Directors of Instruction, Curriculum Coordinators, Principals, and Teachers to provide professional development, training & training materials as well as provide instructional support through an equity-minded lens.

Starting salary dependent upon semester units past Bachelors:
  • $60,307 (0-29 units)
  • $63,202 (30-60 units)
  • $68,637 (60 or more units)

Visions teachers/TOSAs receive a 4% increase each school year until they reach Step 9. Teachers on Step 9 on our salary schedule with 60 or more units can make up to $93,933. In addition, Visions teachers also receive additional longevity pay increases at completion of years 10, 15, and 19. Teachers that have 19 years of longevity may top out at $100,508.

FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

RATIONAL
Visions is dedicated to access, equity and improving learning for all students by providing job-embedded professional learning opportunities and equitable, robust curriculum and instructional support. This position will work closely with the Director of Student Services, Student Services Manager, Directors of Instruction, Curriculum Coordinators, Principals, and Teachers to provide assistance and leadership with instructional planning and implementation; model effective instructional practices; develop content; mentor new teachers; lead and support professional development and organizational instructional initiatives; analyze data and train staff to work with data; support special projects, including Curriculum Revision and Design teams; collaborate with staff and teachers; and related duties as assigned through a culturally responsive and equity-minded lens.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS
Under general direction, the Professional Learning and Innovation TOSA is responsible for supporting the implementation of professional learning opportunities and equitable, robust curriculum and instructional support. This position will work closely with the Director of Student Services, Student Services Manager, Directors of Instruction, Curriculum Coordinators, Principals, and Teachers to provide professional development, training & training materials as well as provide instructional support through an equity-minded lens.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
This role may include but is not limited to the following duties:
  • Plans and delivers professional learning for instructional leaders, including Principals and Teachers that integrates social, emotional, and culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Coaches, observes, and supports instructional leaders and teachers in content creation, effective professional learning facilitation, and regular data conversations aimed at improving and adjusting supports for students and teachers
  • Reviews and supports the implementation of standards aligned instructional materials through a social, emotional, cultural and equity-minded lens
  • Oversees the Curriculum Revision and Design teams
  • Creates resources and training modules on various LMS platforms, including Canvas
  • Provides regular and ongoing support to teachers and parents to support improving student performance on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) assessments
  • Oversees the development of the instructional support/intervention options and curriculum which could include: creating content, student/teacher resources, developing instructional support and progress monitoring timelines, curriculum guides, answer keys, discussion questions, Google Docs, dashboards, teacher support materials, and more
  • Generates and creates reports, data and user metrics for the directors, principals, instructional team, and teachers
  • Provides instructional support classes and workshops
  • Maintains awareness of CA State Standards, assessment and instructional support best practices
  • Manages, coordinates, or assists with special projects, special school programs, and events
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Compensation
  • Teacher is paid at their current column/step
  • This is a full time position and the teacher will not have any student caseload
  • Teacher will have the same work calendar/holidays as all other Visions teachers
  • Teacher will work remotely as well as in the Visions office
  • Timecard for any hours outside of the teacher’s work calendar paid at the extra assignment rate
  • The teacher could serve at least 24 months as the Professional Learning and Innovation TOSA based on the needs of the organization

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Multiple Subject or Single Subject credential
  • Ability to work at the Visions In Education office in Carmichael depending upon need
  • Ability to perform responsibilities outlined above
  • Working knowledge of the California math and ELA curriculum standards, developing content and training materials for teachers, students, and parents
  • Demonstration of exemplary teaching ability with effective communication skills, subject matter knowledge and mastery of a range of teaching strategies necessary to meet the varying needs of students
  • Must have a solid grasp of technology which includes Google applications and their use as an instructional tool. Experience with i-Ready and NWEA/MAP preferred
  • Ability to successfully navigate difficult conversations and hold appropriate boundaries
  • Self-starter who is willing to take initiative and is comfortable with managing time independently and can meet hard deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills, versatility in communication styles and the ability to have tactful conversations with teachers and parents
