MicroInternship: Communications, Multimedia, & Social Media Coordinator

This position would be perfect for a student who wants a great skills-building opportunity or those needing volunteer service hours serving a nonprofit. Or, for those whose university provides internship for credit opportunities with partnering organizations.

The communications coordinator is primarily responsible for strategic communications, multimedia coordination, and social media management for the organization. 

Our Organization The Baton Exchange is a small faith-based leadership development nonprofit based in Columbus, Ohio. We use mentors, leaders, and relational learning communities to equip Christian 20-Somethings to integrate faith, work, and leadership for a life of on-mission redemptive influence in the global workplace. We help 20-Somethings thrive spiritually and professionally post-college. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS 
  • Strategic communications. 
  • Plan, create, and manage communications with organizations clientele, donors, and volunteers.
  • Provide input into the development of the strategic marketing and communications plan.
  • Assist with monthly newsletter and video snapshot updates
  • Collaborate with Brand Ambassadors on recruiting initiatives
  • Manage the monthly electronic video snapshot (our equivalent to a newsletter, but video), including sourcing content and images and distribution through MailChimp or CRM. 
  • Explore and drive forward online cross-promotion opportunities with other relevant organizations, resource centers or online forums 

  • Multimedia coordination. 
  • Manage Baton Exchange video and podcast resources – including uploading content and for enhancing its digital presence and outreach. The role also requires working across the medium of print and video as and when required.
  • Post pdfs to our website learning platform.
  • Attend and record monthly Leader Roundtable zoom interviews between Executive Director and guest leaders, which will then be edited by video producers for various formats, including audio for podcasts and video for training sessions, microlearning and marketing. 
  • Work with the Executive Director to identify compelling ideas for web stories and maintain a content pipeline.
  • Increase audience and engagement through visual storytelling and compelling and exclusive images 
  • Create a post schedule and repost current videos from Vimeo to Social media platforms 

  • Social media management. 
  • Create and manage social media and communications plans, updates, announcements, posts for the following platforms: Facebook, Twitter, WeChat, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Vimeo, Google Calendar, Baton Exchange blog, Every Student Sent. Recommend other platforms that fit within objectives. 
  • Help grow awareness of organization through social media.
  • Analyze performance metrics of various social media platforms and provide recommendations on actions
  • Produce in-house images, GIFS, and videos with both social shareability and long-term value
  • Create visuals for social media platforms that increase engagement and followers 
  • Website revisions as needed 

Other Expectations 
  • Attend one weekly check-in production team meeting
  • Attend one online monthly mentoring meeting with a job mentor or the Executive Director.

Qualifications
  • Strong organizational, writing and communication skills a must, as well as general computer skills
  • Constantly learning about using and leveraging social media to build awareness
  • Mindset of how to find and connect content into social media uses
  • Proficient in MS Word, various social media platforms
  • Proficiency with MailChimp and Planning Center a plus, but not required
  • Not necessarily personally immersed in social media, but proficient in using it
  • Feels comfortable initiating and engaging with people they don’t know
  • Project management skills a plus
  • Eager to see Christian 20-Somethings thrive spiritually and professionally

  • Part-time Position: 2-4 hours per week. We’ll work with you.
