The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is part of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Duties
As a Data Scientist, you will:
  • Plans, constructs, and maintains databases for data storage, manipulation and retrieval.
  • Perform fact-finding, design, software survey, and cost/benefit analysis for new or modified computer applications resulting in the design or modification of systems.
  • Apply a combination of computational and machine learning method to data identify new insights using next generation analytical tools.
  • All other related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include data and information management, software development and utilization, and statistical analysis and modeling.

Salary
GS-11 - 12
$69,107.00 -$107,680.00

  • Up to 5% domestic travel may be required
