SET THE COURSE

The Apparel Technical Design Intern will be a part of the Men’s or Women’s Technical Design team helping to ensure that our products meet our specifications including; consistent fit, construction, pattern approvals, grading, specs. This included communicating style changes, developing and checking specifications for all styles and tracking all styles from samples to production. The Intern will have the opportunity to interact with teams involved in design, product management and merchandising, sourcing, and sustainability.

The Internship will last approximately 8 weeks during summer break timeframe.  The start date of the internship will be June 12th.
  • This is a paid internship opportunity. This role is not eligible for benefits.

BE THE ISLAND GUIDE
  • Assists Technical Designer to develop specific classifications within the Tommy Bahama line for upcoming season(s).
  • Prepares and evaluates development and production fit samples for fit sessions (this includes measuring and steaming garments)
  • Attends sketch hand off meetings.
  • Assists in developing construction specifications and updates as necessary for Tech Packs.
  • Assists in taking notes fitting and writing fit comments.
  • Assists in evaluating patterns.
  • Assists in photographing of samples on fit form or model.
  • Assists in creating and updating measurement charts in PLM/Flex.
  • Attends Milestone Meetings (sample reviews/adoptions).
  • Attends Fit Sessions to learn process and assist in note taking and follow-up.
  • Assists in managing sample closet.
  • Flexible for other duties as needed to help support the overall business. 

ESSENTIALS FOR LIFE IN PARADISE
An expected graduation date of December 2022 or Spring/Summer 2023 in Fashion Design or related degree.
  • Knowledge of fabric and garment construction, grading, basic patternmaking
  • Experience with Photoshop/Adobe Illustrator, any 2D patternmaking programs a plus
  • Self-starter attitude and the ability to be a team player within a fast-paced team
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organization and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong information seeking-skills and a drive to make things happen
  • Ability to clearly articulate goals and objectives
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse group
