The State Water Resources Control Board’s (State Water Board) Division of Water Quality Sustainable Water Plans and Policies Section has an opening for a permanent full-time Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor) to serve as the unit supervisor of the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission (SMBRC) Unit assigning, prioritizing, and supervising the work of the SMBRC as well as serving as the Administrative Director of the SMBRC to support administrative functions of the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission (Commission). We are seeking a talented scientist with a passion for marine life protection and strong organizational skills to support the Commission’s work to protect, enhance, and improve ecosystems of Santa Monica Bay and its watershed.

The position is eligible for full-time telework with periodic travel and in-office days. The headquarters location is located at 320 W 4th Street Suite 200, Los Angeles, CA 90013. The office in the vibrant downtown Los Angeles area next to Grand Central Market, Spring Street Park, metro stations and other public transportation.

Duties:
The incumbent works under the supervision of the Sustainable Water Plans and Policies Environmental Program Manager and leads the SMBRC staff to provide administrative support to the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission (Commission), the state entity partner of the Santa Monica Bay National Estuary Program. The incumbent serves as the Administrative Director to the Commission, supervises SMBRC staff, and collaborates with the Commission, US EPA, and The Bay Foundation, tribes, and stakeholders to promote collaborative watershed-based partnerships in order to develop and implement a Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan that addresses a range of environmental problems facing the Santa Monica Bay watershed, while recognizing and balancing the needs of the local community.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
