PAID INTERNSHIP - Collections Intern [METAL MUSEUM]

The Metal Museum is the only institution of its kind in North America, and one of only a few in the world devoted to metalwork. The mission of the Metal Museum is to preserve, promote, and advance the art and craft of fine metalwork.

The Collections Rehousing Intern will work under the supervision of the Collections and Exhibitions Department to assist in rehousing a portion of the Permanent Collection. The intern will work to study, record, and rehouse objects from the Prichard Collection, which includes German and Italian locks and hardware from the 16th to 19th centuries. A successful intern project will result in rehousing the objects into a more permanent storage solution and making the pieces accessible to the public via social media.

Intern Responsibilities:
• Generate condition reports on objects from the Prichard Collection.
• Photographing objects using state-of-the-art equipment and processing the photos.
• Rehouse these objects using the appropriate storage materials.
• Updating records in our Past Perfect catalogue system to reflect changes in the location and conditions of these objects.
• Develop a series (3) of social media posts to highlight objects from the Prichard Collection, the nature of the Collection itself, and their project scope.
• Assist in organizing and digitizing archival materials related to the Prichard Collection.

Qualifications:
• We are looking for an individual who is genuinely excited to work in a museum setting with objects from our Permanent Collection. Ideally, this individual will have an academic background in Art History, History, and/or the Studio Arts.
• It is our hope that this individual will bring a curiosity to learn and an enthusiasm for maintaining and sharing objects from the Permanent Collection.
• Strong research and organizational skills are required.
• The position requires a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

The intern will become familiar with the workings of the Metal Museum, and particularly the Collections and Exhibitions Department, throughout the course of the internship.
