Business Intelligence Analyst / Information Technologist II

Position Summary

The Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of clinical data warehouse and analytics systems and applying a high degree of competence, knowledge, and creativity to resolving major problems. Reporting to the Clinical Application Development BI Manager, this role will process ad hoc clinical and research data requests by clinical employees and researchers following HIPAA and MSU Health Care Inc. approval guidelines. Other duties include:

Operational Support and Activities
  • Understand customer clinical and administrative application technology demands and provide solution capabilities that meet organizational requirements through the data warehouse and analytics requirements.
  • Responsible for the proper operation, maintenance, utilization, and security of all data warehouse and analytics services software and servers.
  • Work closely with other technical teams to implement infrastructure improvements.
  • Stays up-to-date with industry best practices and vendor-specific application methodologies.
  • Maintain relationships with management to coordinate daily operations.

Projects and Systems Design
  • Develop data strategy to design solutions that meet business needs effectively.
  • Use problem-solving and analytical skills to design, implement, upgrade, and support complex application systems.
  • Work with staff colleagues to integrate processes with application functionality.
  • Work with staff colleagues on project teams.
  • Work with IT staff colleagues to develop, standardize and maintain documentation.
  • Conversant in software development lifecycle processes, procedures, and roles with an understanding of various software development methods and processes, including traditional and agile approaches.

Incident and Problem Management
  • Use problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve incidents related to complex application systems.
  • Apply a high degree of competence, knowledge, and creativity to resolve major problems.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; Three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive experience in data warehouse and analytics development; Possessing technical experience in the following: PLSQL, TSQL, MS SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services, BI Tools or other enterprise reporting services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, business administration, computer science, or other information technology related degree
  • Possess a high level of technical expertise in the following technologies: BI Tools, DAX, R Microsoft .Net, ASP.net, C#, or other programming languages.
  • Demonstrate ability to meet deadlines without compromising close attention to scope, detail, and accuracy.
  • Formal Training and experience in software development lifecycle management, both traditional and agile approaches.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead and communicate with staff effectively.
  • General clinical knowledge, including familiarity with Athena Clinicals and Collector.
