Brand, Marketing, & Communications Intern

At GDI, we believe brand and influence are critical to early stage social impact initiatives. As part of GDI’s Brand, Marketing, and Communications (BMC) team, you’ll have the opportunity to help drive influence and impact for our initiatives.

As an incubator, the GDI team is helping build several social impact startups at any given time. In this role, you will support communications activities for GDI and across GDI’s portfolio of initiatives, from climate finance to youth employment and everything in between.

The ideal candidate will have experience creating content for digital media channels and an interest in global development. Above all, your core mission is to support expanding the reach and impact of GDI and its initiatives’ influence in a crowded global communications landscape. 

You will report to the BMC Manager and work closely with the BMC team. This position will be part-time, 5-10 hours per week, and compensated at $15.00 per hour. The length of the internship will be mutually agreed upon based on the candidate’s availability.


Responsibilities


Thought Leadership
  • Publish and promote blog posts written by GDI staff 
  • Research media opportunities for GDI and its initiatives
Social Media Management 
  • Curate weekly content and relevant messaging for multiple social media accounts across several platforms (Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook)
  • Support planning and execution of digital campaigns 
  • Collect monthly engagement data across digital platforms 
Internal Communications 
  • Support connectivity across our global staff through helping plan team retreats, monthly staff calls, and other internal efforts
Project Management
  • Support the development of pitch materials for the BMC team
  • Support expansion of vendor network


Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including strong English grammar and editing skills and the ability to translate complicated issues into clear writing 
  • Demonstrated knowledge, interest, and experience in global social impact
  • Experience working with media outlets (i.e. writing or pitching articles)
  • Demonstrated ability of using Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, or Instagram in a professional setting
  • Superb time and project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to perform under tight deadlines
  • A curious and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Familiarity with digital media platforms, particularly Canva and Mailchimp, is a plus!
