Public Relations Intern

Title: Public Relations Intern
         Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly (LBFE)
 
LBFE’s philosophy, programs, and activities are focused on alleviating loneliness and isolation among elders in Chicago. The need for social interactions critical to the human spirit and we believe that nurturing the spirit is as important as feeding the body.
 
The Public Relations Intern would support the Marketing Department in creating video vignettes based on LBFE’s archive of photos and videos for sharing thorough appropriate social media platforms. The Intern would also assist with the creation of regular social media postings and in the identification and planning of new social media opportunities.
 
Ideal majors or areas of interest include: Journalism, Mass Communication, Marketing, Public Relations; undergraduate junior or senior or graduate student is preferred.

Specific Job Skills Required
·        Knowledge of, and demonstrated creativity with, various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn).
·        Strong editing skills and comfort working with photos or videos.
·        Ability to quickly observe and adapt to LBFE’s tone and content.
·        Excellent research skills and attention to detail and accuracy.
·        Curiosity and ability to ask questions.
·        Interest in photography.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
·        Work closely with the Writer to create at least one video or photo montage a week. Montages may follow themes based on programs (i.e., Summer Programs or Birthday delivery) or other concepts, such as connection, friendship, etc.
·        Create a variety of engaging content for social media sites in close collaboration with Writer, at minimum, approximately two Facebook/Instagram posts a week, two Twitter posts a month, and monthly LinkedIn update.
·        Will work toward confident ownership over content creation by developing creativity and sound judgement, proposing potential posts, and devising and revising drafts accordingly. 
·        With the help of LBFE’s Social Media Plan, research and suggest ways to broaden LBFE’s social media presence, build “brand” image, and engage donors, volunteers, community partners, and public at large.
Learning Objectives
·        Organizational management: intern will be able to plan, implement, and manage projects and communicate progress to supervisor.
·        Analysis/problem-solving: intern will be able to strategically research, analyze, and solve problems, or make suggestions to improve processes.
·        Intern will be able to use the policies laid out in our Social Media Plan, Communications Guide on Reframing Aging, and our LBFE Style Guide to help inform the language, content, and look of posts.
 
 
 
Time Commitment
·        8-10 hours per week, starting in late May, for 10-12 weeks.
·        Role is in-person at LBFE’ offices at 355 N Ashland Ave.
