Children’s Publicity Internship – Summer 2023

Bloomsbury Children’s Books is seeking a publicity intern for the summer term. We are located in Midtown/Herald Square and publish bestselling and acclaimed picture book, middle grade, and young adult authors such as Salina Yoon, Kate Messner, Kalynn Bayron, Brigid Kemmerer, Renée Watson, and Trang Thanh Tran. This internship is preferably hybrid in-office.

Position Profile
Bloomsbury Children’s Books is looking for an enthusiastic, organized, creative, and book-loving individual to join our Publicity team as a Publicity Intern 2-3 days per week. This person will work with the Children’s Publicity Department on a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction titles, from picture books through young adult novels.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assists publicists with press materials, pitch letters, and review copy mailings
  • Updates and tracks publicity coverage in the form of a bimonthly report, various title reports, and accolades grids
  • Attends internal meetings; attends, prepares materials for, and takes notes during external meetings with event and media contacts
  • Conducts research on journalists, editors, reviewers, influencers, and other gatekeepers
  • Monitors and redirects email queries from a generic publicity inbox
  • Publicity administration tasks include ordering books, maintaining contact databases and reviewer lists, and managing digital ARC requests
  • Based on interest and need, opportunities for additional publicity projects may arise

Requirements

  • Must love children’s and YA books!
  • Interest in pursuing a full-time position in publishing, publicity a bonus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detailed-oriented, well-organized, and able to multitask and juggle a variety of projects and deadlines
Educational Background Required
  • Recently graduated from or working toward a 4-year degree or equivalent
  • Booksellers, educators, and reviewers looking to pivot to book publishing also encouraged to apply
Duration:
We require a commitment of 24-29 hours per week (specific schedule to be arranged with your supervisor) for the entire internship term.

This position pays minimum wage ($15.00/hour).

Location:
Candidates must reside in NY, NJ, CT, or PA and be able to commute to Bloomsbury USA’s office in New York City twice a week. Flex time available.
