Transportation Demand Management Intern - Transit Access and Wayfinding Project

Departmental Overview
Parking & Transportation (P&T) provides access to and around the campus for students, faculty,
staff, visitors, and vendors. Our department manages the daily parking demand on campus and
for special events, campus perimeter shuttle, ADA Loop service, and the design and promotion of the alternative transportation programs for staff, faculty, and students.

The UC Berkeley Parking and Transportation Department (P&T) provides resources and programs for students, staff and faculty traveling between home, campus, and beyond. The Alternative Transportation Unit supports the programs and efforts between P&T’s partners, both public and private industry, to provide a multimodal, equitable, safe and sustainable campus.

The future of the department will include a regional go-anywhere pass pilot with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and BART; launch of a scooter share program in the City of Berkeley; partnering with the City of Richmond on a microtransit and bikeshare pilot to serve the Richmond Field Station; and much more!

Position Description & Responsibilities
Parking & Transportation seeks a talented intern who is passionate about marketing, graphic design, behavior change and sustainability, but with an eye for Social Media and Social Behavioral Change. Whether their forte is strategizing about how to reach our benchmarks, conducting data analysis, creating fun on-campus events, or designing engaging communications materials.

The projects that the intern will assist with during the Summer Internship:
  • Design and Organization of the Bear Transit Bus Stops on campus.
  • Assisting the Transportation Demand Management Administrator and Senior Intern with the development of the Student Intern
  • Assist and reorganize the Parking & Transportation website for ease of use and design.

Required Qualifications
  • Background in Canva, Adobe Suite (Photoshop and InDesign), Office, and other design skills
  • Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills
  • Interest in using print and digital communications methods, outreach to promote behavioral change, sustainability, active transportation, or similar programs.
  • Availability for Caltopia and GBO in late August, 2023

Desired Qualifications
  • Interest in policy work to promote an integrated public transit system for the Bay Area.
  • Experience using Social Media (Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, Facebook)
  • Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) networks

The position will require a minimum of one (1) day a week in the Parking & Transportation office
