Digital Marketing and Graphic Design Internship

We’re seeking students who are eager to learn, self-motivated and are comfortable working independently. This internship offers the opportunity to support and assist with real-life projects within our Communications team. With projects that are designed to enhance your communication and teamwork skills, you’ll be collaborating with individuals across all functions of our organization and working alongside professionals in the field to gain in-depth knowledge about the energy industry and your chosen areas of expertise. This position will allow you to apply what you’ve learned in school to impactful projects within a publicly traded, multi-state energy company. PAY: $17.00 per hour (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Digital Strategy Manager Senior, Corporate Communications

LOCATION: This position is located at our corporate headquarters in Rapid City, South Dakota.

  • Intern Relocation Adjustment Allowance of $1,000.00 is offered for the purpose of assisting with various expenses associated with your relocation for the internship (less applicable taxes and based on eligibility). Contents of our relocation program are subject to change and may vary based on position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Create concepts, artwork and layout based on creative briefs, client meetings and user experience best practices.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of integrated digital marketing campaigns through the use of social media, paid search, SEO and email campaigns that help promote the culture, products and services and build the Black Hills Energy brand.
  • Assist in monitoring, analyzing and reporting on the performance of digital marketing campaigns.
  • Assist team members in the creation of digital marketing assets including but not limited to: digital ad copy, website updates, social media story design, email copy and design, segmenting and targeting audiences and the design of digital assets for various channels.
  • Assist with internal marketing campaigns through various internal channels including the Black Hills Energy intranet and digital signage.
  • Assist with the ongoing maintenance of the digital asset management system by uploading and keywording digital assets.
  • Continually look for opportunities to expand the company’s reach in new digital media platforms and assist in the execution when appropriate.
  • Proactively manage all online content by working with subject matter experts for the maintenance and improvement of information.
  • Use content management system to develop and build microsites and landing pages on company websites that coincide with campaign and marketing efforts and strategic goals.
  • Support the company’s email marketing strategy by: 
  • Collaborating with the corporate communications team to design, write and refine messaging. 
  • Working with the customer service team to responsibly manage customer email addresses and company email lists based on CAN-SPAM laws and email marketing best practices.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support special projects as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • College junior or above working towards a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Journalism or another related field. If you’re a recent graduate, you must be within one year of your graduation date.
  • No experience is required. 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High levels of self-motivation, curiosity and creativity.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for multiple review process.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and enlist others’ support in ensuring timely project completion. 
  • Basic knowledge of Windows environments.
  • Above average knowledge and practical application of InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, XD, Acrobat and Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to prepare and give presentations.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
