Store Design Internship - Summer 2023

Our Internship program is based in Austin, Texas down the street from our original Whole Foods Market store. Our interns don’t get us coffee; instead they enjoy free coffee and tea while working on meaningful projects that impact our internal and external stakeholders. This Intern is responsible for supporting in store design for various types of projects. Manages and coordinates store design scope on assigned projects through the duration of the project from schematic design thru construction.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates & supports in store design for projects as assigned.
  • Implements and adheres to global directives on design.
  • Provides design project management support for assigned stores/ projects.
  • Maintains project schedules, including milestones, deliverables, and overall timelines.
  • Tracks and guides task progress, identifying and communicating issues and risks to relevant stakeholders.
  • Tracks budgets on projects and communicates progress to their Sr TL.
  • Ensures consistency and adherence to WFM standards, processes, and policies.

Professional Knowledge:

  • Understands Design project management methodologies and requirements.
  • Ability to plan, estimate, organize, and monitor projects.
  • Ability to keep projects on track financially, creatively, and in accordance with stakeholder deadlines.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop, Excel, and InDesign.
  • Ability to use Bluebeam, Adobe PDF and/or Sketch-up.

Interpersonal & Communication Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and listening.
  • Presents information and responds to questions with guidance, one-on-one, and with internal and external customers. Tailors communication approach to specific situations and audiences.

  • Supports team and cross-functional projects within defined area of responsibility.

  • Understands company, business unit, and/or project strategy, goals, and objectives.
  • Able to identify alignment / misalignment of team project goals with larger organizational strategy, goals, and objectives.
  • Understands the WFM product mix, supply base, and retail operations.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Pursuing Masters or Bachelors Degree in Architecture, Architectural Studies/Design
