Scientist III (Ecology)

RES
RES is seeking an Ecologist III with 5+ years of experience for our Kentucky operations out of either the Louisville or Frankfort offices. 
The mission: manage complex ecological projects and serve as go-to technical expert in given field such as botany, wetland science, aquatic ecology or wildlife biology. 

What your day-to-day might look like?

Around 50% of your time will be in the field!  You will be performing water/wetland delineations, stream/wetland mitigation monitoring, feasibility assessments of potential restoration projects, endangered species and habitat surveys, and other ecological site assessments. You will be leading teams, so previous management experience is a plus. Please be advised that we perform these tasks come rain or come shine and working outside in harsh and adverse weather conditions (including both cold and hot environments) is part of the routine. You will also be walking long distances, bending, lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and performing other physical activities. Occasionally, some of our projects require extended travel with overnight stays.
 
Around 50% of your time, you will be spent on data analysis / processing and technical writing based on our fieldwork.  This could include detailed mitigation/restoration plans, mitigation bank proformas, Biological Assessments (BAs) for endangered species, detailed scopes of work and budgets, water/wetland permit application packages, and regulatory summaries outlining development strategies for our clients. Superior writing, communication, and computer skills (MS Windows Suite, etc.) and attention to detail are paramount!

Qualifications

We would love to talk to you if you have many of the following:
  • BA/BS in an environmental science field such as, but not limited to, ecology, wetland science, aquatic biology, botany, wildlife biology, fisheries, soils, hydrology
  • Experience with wetland/stream delineations, mitigation monitoring, and leading a field team
  • Strong working knowledge of plant identification and vegetation surveys
  • Understanding of stream/wetland restoration design principles and construction
  • Experience with GPS data collection and ArcGIS
What will make you stand out?
  • MS in an applicable environmental science field
  • Expert knowledge of regional flora and fauna
  • Proficiency with Trimble GPS units, ArcGIS, and/or ESRI data collection software.
  • Certifications such as PWD, PWS, or endangered species collection permits
  • Experience working with federal and state resource and regulatory agency personnel and various permitting processes.
