Natural Resource Management Specialist

This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

As a Natural Resource Management Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
  • Assist fisheries and protected species managers in managing, conserving, and protecting living marine and aquatic resources and their habitats by reviewing, gathering, and synthesizing scientific data and technical information to determine environmental impacts on biological resources and marine and aquatic habitats.
  • Assist in preparing materials to implement the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and other applicable laws, and assist in preparing Section 7 consultations with Federal, state, and/or local agencies.
  • Review, edit, and provide technical support to the supervisor regarding applicable fishery management and policy documents, and prepare reports and participate in briefings of agency officials.
  • Collaborate with external Federal, state, and local agencies to promote sustainable fisheries, recovery of identified species, and conservation of habitats, and develop and maintain effective working relationships with NOAA counterparts, scientists, government partners, and constituents.
