Tank Technical Auditor

The Department of Environmental Quality, Office of Spill Response and Remediation (Tanks Program) seeks a qualified Tank Technical Auditor to support DEQ’s leaking tank corrective action program.
The qualified applicant hired for this position will:
- Perform technical audits of work proposed by contractors and peer reviews of work verified by case managers for consistency with technical guidance and policy.
- Support the reimbursement program by reviewing cost estimates and invoiced costs before payment is approved from the Virginia Petroleum Storage Tank Fund.
- Collaborate with Central Office staff, Regional Office staff, and stakeholders to improve consistency with remediation and reimbursement technical and program requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Combination of education and/or training in geology, hydrogeology, engineering, or environmental science.
- Knowledge of state and federal leaking Underground Storage Tank (UST) guidance and regulations.
- Knowledge of the Virginia Petroleum Storage Tank Fund and requirements.
- Knowledge of groundwater contamination site assessment technology and methods.
- Knowledge of groundwater and leaking UST remediation technology and methods.
- Demonstrated project management ability.
- Personal computer skills to support program assessments and quality improvement activities.
Additional Considerations:
- Education, experience, licensure, and/or certification to demonstrate the equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
- Must be able to operate a state vehicle.
- Local and occasional overnight travel may be required.
