Scientist I - Ecologist
Overview
Interested in joining us? RES is now accepting applications for Ecologist I with at least one (1) year of relevant work or educational experience to provide broad environmental support to a team of environmental restoration and mitigation professionals, based out of Richmond, VA.
Ecologist I will work collaboratively with ecology and regulatory personnel to perform all aspects of fieldwork and compilation of technical reports. You will be part of a team that is always ready to support you in your learning process.
What your day-to-day might look like?
Around 80% of your time, you will be in the field! You will be performing stream and wetlands delineations, vegetation monitoring, conducting biological and geomorphic stream surveys, and performing hydrological monitoring.
Please be advised that we perform these tasks come rain or come shine and working outside in harsh and under adverse weather conditions (including both cold and hot environments) is part of the routine. You will also be walking long distances, climbing, bending, lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and performing other physical activities. Some of our projects also require extensive travel with overnight stays.
Around 20% of your time, you will be performing data entry, data processing, and technical writing based on your fieldwork. Superior writing, communication, and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and attention to detail are paramount!
Qualifications
We would love to talk to you if you have many of the following:
• B.S. in an environmental science-related field (such as but not limited to ecology, forestry, botany, geology, soils, hydrology, etc.)
• Experience performing wetland delineations and /or stream determinations.
• Understanding of geomorphology principles.
• Acceptable driving record
• Comfortable hauling trailers and working with ATVs/UTVs
• Ability to read and interpret environmental mapping
What will make you stand out?
• Experience performing macroinvertebrates and / or fish surveys.
• Experience with plant identification and vegetation surveys.
• Experience with Trimble GPS and various survey equipment
• Direct experience with state and federal environmental regulations and permitting processes
• GIS proficiency
• Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or Wetland Professional In Training (WPIT) certification
• Rosgen Level I (or related) certification
