Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Specialist

Assignment Summary: ACDI/VOCA is currently seeking a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Specialist for an upcoming Service Learning Corps Assignment in South Africa. Tanager, a subsidiary of ACDI/VOCA, is implementing the Imbewu Farmer Development Program in South Africa and requests volunteer assistance to collaborate with project staff to analyze farmer actions and program interventions to measure success.

 

The selected volunteer will collaborate both remotely and in person with project staff to refine and answer the learning questions for this activity. The volunteer will help analyze existing M&E data, conduct key interviews, as well as complete desk research that embeds project interventions into broader development research and practice. The volunteer will also help develop farmer profiles and 2-3 learning pieces with project staff. This assignment will last for 3 months.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a literature review on agricultural development, focusing on best practices in transforming smallholder farmers into economies of scale through the market systems approach.
  • Schedule interviews with project stakeholders, including farmers, project managers, and technical experts, ensuring availability and alignment of schedules.
  • Conduct key informant interviews with project stakeholders, focusing on gathering insights into successful interventions and challenges faced.
  • Start drafting initial farmer profiles, outlining their background, experiences, and achievements.
  • Accompany project team members on field visits to observe ongoing activities and interventions firsthand.
  • Incorporate quotes, anecdotes, and supporting evidence to enrich the narratives and highlight the impact of Imbewu interventions on farmers' lives.
  • Compile a comprehensive report summarizing key findings, insights, and recommendations emerging from the assignment.
  • Prepare presentations or visual aids to accompany the final report, facilitating communication of findings to project stakeholders.

 

Qualifications:

  • Graduate/Ph.D. student or recent graduate in Monitoring and Evaluation, Data Analytics, International Development, or another related program.
  • Expertise (work or educational experience) in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning activities.
  • Previous experience analyzing data and presenting research to others.
