Laboratory Technician - Entomology

General Description:
The primary function of this position is to support the company’s research and product development efforts through the execution of laboratory studies and technical cross-functional support. A successful candidate must possess the willingness to perform experimental studies involving insects, insecticides, and microbes. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, comfortable handling insects, and can conduct their work in a conscientious manner, while also meeting prescribed project objectives and deadlines.

Principal Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with principal investigators to design and execute insecticide efficacy experiments on various arthropods
- Maintain in-house insect colonies used for efficacy testing (i.e. cockroaches, mosquitoes, and ants)
- Collect data, analyze results, and present findings through structured reports
- Develop protocols to improve existing techniques and incorporate new procedures
- Troubleshoot technical issues and proactively address problems and challenges
- Periodically provide microbiology laboratory support (i.e. media preparation, testing, microbial isolation, quantification, and characterization)
- Participate in general lab maintenance activities: cleaning, equipment preventative maintenance and supply purchasing
- Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related science
- Ability to produce and interpret data to provide insights and data-driven recommendations
- Willingness to work with cockroaches, mosquitoes, ants and flies on a daily basis
- Willingness to work less frequently with additional arthropods including bed bugs, wasps, ticks, spiders, scorpions and centipedes
- Knowledge of and proven ability to adhere to safety rules, operating instructions, and maintenance procedures to ensure occupational, regulatory and legal compliance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with insects or other arthropods
Onsite Requirements
- This position is located at our Brooklyn Park, MN location and is required to be onsite Monday-Friday along with one weekend a month for approximately 4-6 hours.
