Summary:

Collaborate to create energy portfolio modeling and monitoring, work with cutting edge renewable energy forecasting and energy consumption modeling platforms, providing analysis and reporting, monitor and develop energy trading strategies and provide corporate reporting and policy compliance monitoring. Collaborate with key Great River Energy (GRE) stakeholders, and with GRE’s energy marketing partner, ACES.

 

Total Rewards:

A typical starting range for this position is $99,000 - $117,000+ annually. Responsibilities: Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct modeling and analysis of GRE renewable energy portfolio forecasting performance.
  • Conduct modeling and analysis of GRE energy consumption forecasting performance.
  • Solicit renewable and load forecasting vendors to ensure GRE is utilizing best services available in the market.
  • Monitor energy portfolio performance, and identify risks and report areas of concern.
  • Oversee ACES monthly portfolio reports that utilize Monte Carlo simulation to ensure assumptions and results are accurate.
  • Track metrics in the ACES monthly portfolio reports to identify energy portfolio risks and report areas of concern.
  • Monitor and report on energy market conditions and interactions.
  • Review and monitor ACES daily and weekly reporting for energy market interaction and natural gas and fuel trading.
  • Provide updates to key stakeholders on the performance of the GRE energy portfolio and MISO market conditions, weekly or more frequently during more extreme events.
  • Manage communication and oversight of modeling required by internal policies, including stress tests to be completed by ACES.
  • Communicate the results of forecasts and analyses through oral presentations and written reports to GRE staff, member systems, and external organizations.
  • Work internally to develop forecasting assumptions as parts of special projects analyzing potential future states of the business.
  • Manage direct relationships with vendors, including user access, performance evaluation, performance improvements, and annual contract negotiations.
  • Understand, oversee and update systems to prevent violations of internal policies. Revise procedures and reports periodically to identify hidden risks or non-conformity issues.
  • Prepare reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies as appropriate.

 

Qualifications: Knowledge typically acquired through four years of college resulting in a bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, engineering, or related field. At least two-years of experience in the energy industry including forecasting, modeling, accounting, economics, transaction origination, contract administration, risk management, and engineering. Very strong research, analytical, organizational, and communications skills are required.
Familiarity with risk-based analytics and modeling tools, including stochastic and Monte Carlo simulation concepts and techniques. Skills in preparing complex spreadsheets including creating macros, complex formulas, calculations, and reports, and in utilizing relational databases, creating tables, joins, ad-hoc reporting, and data mining functions.
