Molecular Biology/Genetics Technician II

We are excited to announce the opening of a Molecular Biology/Genetics Technician II at our Genidaqs laboratory in West Sacramento, CA! This full-time position would learn, develop, and apply cutting edge genetic- and molecular-based laboratory processes to address environmental issues that affect fish and wildlife. This key position supports the organization by assisting Genidaqs scientists in conducting laboratory work, field work, data collection, data synthesis and problem solving. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct lab work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Extract DNA from a variety of sample types and perform PCR and Quantitative PCR (qPCR) .
  • Conduct laboratory work under supervision for a wide array of projects.
  • Perform work in the field that may require physical exertion (e.g., eDNA or tissue collection) and taking measurements of individual specimens.
  • Implement logistical items such as purchasing or shipping of equipment and supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assist in general laboratory supply inventory, upkeep, and purchasing.
  • Assist in database and sample management.
  • Conduct research and development into new technologies and lab techniques.
  • Lead field crews: deal with the logistics of field days and ensure that samples/data are collected properly.
  • Work with clients to provide training on proper field sampling methods for eDNA and tissue collection.
  • Train new employees in how to correctly perform required field and lab techniques.
  • Assists in project management including: Trailering and boat operations, in-field sample collection coordination and logistics, lab workflow and efficiency, and generation of data and deliverables for clients.

EDUCATION / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related science degree, two years of related experience, or a combination of undergraduate education and related experience.
  • An understanding of PCR, qPCR, and DNA sequencing with the ability to perform basic molecular techniques on the bench.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, record, and synthesize high-quality data sets for lab or field projects and experiments independently or with a team.
  • Demonstrated expertise and passion for science, natural resources and providing useable information for resolving complex problems.
  • Demonstrated skills in data collection, entry, and analysis, developing graphs and communicating project methods and findings in presentations and reports.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, including Access.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Advance molecular biology techniques and genetic analysis.
  • Environmental science experience including freshwater ecology and fisheries.
  • Data recording, data management experience.
  • California boat operator card.

Genidaqs team members provide clients with access to cutting edge genetic- and molecular ecology-based techniques applicable to solving today’s resource management issues.

COMPENSATION: $19/hour - $27/hour (depending upon experience).

ESOP: CFS is a 100% employee-owned company. Our employee stock option plan (ESOP) is a qualified defined contribution plan. Our target ESOP contribution is 5%. Eligibility is after one year of service with an entry date of Jan 1 or July 1.
