Positions at the Water Boards may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position.

Please note: this position is paid on an hourly basis and limited to 1500 hours per calendar year. The salary range for Scientific Aid is $17.21 - $20.43 per hour.

The Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board’s Municipal Stormwater Unit has an opening for a Scientific Aid to assist in the administration of its stormwater programs.  The position is located at 3737 Main Street, Suite 500, Riverside CA 92501, in the heart of downtown Riverside near a light rail station and other public transportation, restaurants, and more, with the option for limited remote work.

Duties:
Commensurate with training and experience, the Scientific Aid assists in evaluating permittees’ compliance under the Caltrans, Phase I and II municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) permits, statewide construction and industrial general permits, and other NPDES permits. They assist in investigating complaints regarding permitted and unpermitted facilities. The Scientific Aid collects evidence of non-compliance, including photos, video, paper and electronic documentation, and witness statements. The Scientific Aid is responsible for providing timely and professional assistance to the public and staff within the Department, by phone, e-mail, mail, and in person. The Scientific Aid is required to coordinate their work with permanent, full-time Unit staff, communicate effectively, manage multiple tasks, and proficiently use information management systems according to state and office policies. Daily proficient utilization of vehicles, field monitoring equipment, office equipment and the Microsoft Office Suite is required.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
