Background:

The Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC), a national non-profit organization founded in 1994 by Harvard Business School Professor Michael Porter, drives inclusive economic prosperity in U.S. under-resourced communities through innovative research and programs to create jobs, income, and wealth for local residents. ICIC brings together business and civic leaders to drive innovation and action, transform thinking, and accelerate economic development. At ICIC, you will work with talented, creative, and committed professionals in a collaborative culture dedicated to excellence and innovation.

Position Summary:

ICIC is seeking a high-performing intern who will work predominantly on supporting ICIC’s Inner City 100 (IC100) award that spotlights the 100 fastest-growing companies in under-resourced communities. The specific tasks will include assisting award finalists through the application process, vetting basic financial data, and compiling winners’ company information in preparation for their feature in the 2024 IC100 awards list. The dates for the internship are negotiable but will require at least 8 weeks of full-time (40 hours/week) work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Following up with finalists to complete all aspects of the application.
  • Vetting financial data of finalists and performing “background check” on them.
  • Compiling materials for publication.
  • Supporting the Data Strategy and Innovation team with other projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience conducting primary and secondary research.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with peers in a remote working environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, including some proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

A successful candidate will be passionate about the work that we do at ICIC and have a desire to learn more about issues in public policy and economic development that affect residents of under-resourced communities. They will be comfortable working independently in a remote working environment while remaining flexible to shifting project priorities.

Why ICIC?
