Associate Landscape Architect

The MHTN Landscape & Planning team is seeking an Associate Landscape Architect; this is an entry-level position with incredible growth opportunities. MHTN supports technical excellence through continuing education resources, in-house professional development support, and mentoring. This is a perfect role for someone with, or seeking a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture who is aspiring towards licensure. We are seeking someone with a minimum of 2 years of schooling from an accredited Landscape Architecture Program and/or 1-2 years of professional experience in a Landscape Architecture firm or comparable setting.  The ideal candidate for this role will also have an interest in supporting planning projects as the landscape and planning teams collaborate regularly.

The Associate Landscape Architect works with other landscape architects, architects, planners, engineers, surveyors, and other technicians in the development of design and construction documents. Project involvement ranges from initial concept design/planning (with an emphasis on design capabilities), community engagement, schematic design, design development, construction documents and construction administration.

In conjunction with the Project Landscape Architect, this position develops project scope in accordance with budget and schedule and organizes information concisely into construction documentation. This position plays a key role in preparing site plans, landscape planting plans, irrigation plans and construction documents, in coordination with other design professionals, both internal and external. This position may also be asked to assist with the development of planning studies, illustrations, and reports in support of planning projects.  Professionalism as well as the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment are non-negotiable in this role.

Here is a list of the key skills which we seek for this role:

  • Proven design capabilities which include exploration of concept design sketches in both hand-drawn and computer-generated drawings and graphics.
  • Understanding of engineering systems, equipment, technology requirements, detailing and how they relate to construction.
  • Experience with necessary codes and regulatory standards.
  • Well organized and detail oriented.
  • Communicate effectively with project team and in team environments.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Land FX, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS and MS Office.
  • Proficiency with 3D programs (Revit, Lumion Etc.) preferred but not required.
  • Basic understanding of city and regional planning with experience in building consensus across diverse stakeholders is preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate remotely as needed – including phone and video conferencing.
  • Highly creative and forward thinking.
  • Self-motivated contributors.
  • Involvement with professional organizations in the field.
