The Underground- and Aboveground Storage Tanks Enforcement Unit has an opening for an Engineering Geologist in the Storage Tanks and Mines Section of the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (Board). The position is located at 11020 Sun Center Drive, Rancho Cordova, California 95670.

Duties:

Under the close supervision of the Senior Engineering Geologist, the incumbent will independently perform engineering geologic, hydrogeologic, and administrative duties at environmentally impacted sites in the Central Valley Region. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: providing guidance and regulatory oversight for waste discharges which could potentially impact human health and the environment, including beneficial uses of State waters; reviewing work plans, reports, and cleanup proposals; evaluating hydrogeological and geochemical data, groundwater monitoring plans, well designs, and environmental data (soil, soil gas, water, sediment, indoor air) to assess the nature and extent of contamination and ascertain compliance with the Board’s cleanup goals; preparing enforcement orders and notices of violations, when compliance is not achieved or acceptable; directing investigations and cleanup, consistent with State regulations and Board policies; preparing correspondence and enforcement orders directing investigations and cleanup, consistent with Board policies and regulations; and prioritizing case load to support multiple project sites of varying priority levels and complexity, simultaneously, and annual work plan commitments.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
