Quality Control Intern

May - August 2018 • West Greenwich, RI

What I liked

My manager was very supportive! Every employee was so willing to give career advice and provide mentorship. The program includes a weekly speaker series with members of the Senior Leadership Team, offsite intern bonding, and a poster session at the end of the summer to showcase your work.

What I wish was different

My primary project was not very technically challenging, and it was a lot of busy work.

Advice

Advice

The Amgen internship is a three-fold experience: 1. Your Project 2. Coffee Chats/Networking 3. Week long case competition.

Finance and Strategy Intern

June - September 2017 • Thousand Oaks, CA

What I liked

Program was set up great, the company has an amazing and comfortable culture - very supportive. The internship was set up to where you are developing a project that is actually useful.

What I wish was different

Your experience is heavily due to the manager you are assigned to and a lot of the projects aren't comparable in difficulty and complexity, as well as some projects were not finance related at all.

Advice

Network as much as possible and get ahead on your project.

Continuous Improvement Intern

What I liked

I liked how they treated the interns. They threw intern social events and speaker series. They also made sure all of the interns had a project to present at an end of the summer Intern Poster session.

Advice

Biology Research Assistant

May - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Amgen Scholars internship program gave me housing and flew me out to LA for symposium during the summer. Program included scientific communication seminar course. Also had a good deal of independence in the lab.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given better-defined expectations and an idea of “reasonable” work. Some interns would work weekends and some regularly had short work days.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to ask questions

Data Science Intern

June - August 2018 • Cambridge, MA

What I liked

The office is awesome - right in the middle of Kendall square. Most FTEs are relatively young, so I felt like they were receptive to my ideas and input. I definitely feel like my work was appreciated.

What I wish was different

The office in Cambridge doesn't have a strong HR presence so there aren't many events / bonding opportunities for interns. I got to know the few who worked on my team, but not many others.

Product Manager Intern

August 2017 • Paris, France

What I liked

They give me a lot of projects and responsibilities

What I wish was different

We do not have time to do everything. We are always in the rush and it is stressful. Also I am an apprentice so one week per month I have to go to school and it contributes to the rush because I only have 3 weeks per month to work. It’s part of it but sometimes frustrating.

Advice

Communicate a lot with your manager. Never say yes you can do it when you know you won’t be able to. When you start to job you want to give everything and say yes to everything but sometimes you have to learn how to priorize and to say no.
