What I liked

I got to be physically active, spend time outdoors, and form lasting connections with my crew.

What I wish was different

My crew ended up spending most of the summer working at a single site. I would have liked more variability in the work sites.

Advice

Don't bother buying all that gear on the list - they have tons of good quality loaner gear available.

What I liked

Working for ACC is an amazing opportunity to learn about conservation and develop professional skills. You learn to work closely with diverse individuals and meet project partners from the USFS, NPS, and other local recreation organizations which help with networking. You learn a wide variety of skills, get to work hands on, and spend time in the outdoors. ACC also provides AmeriCorps service positions that offer an educational award upon completion of a set term. It is a great job for students interested in the outdoors and conservation.
