Car Rental Agent

December 2017 - October 2018 • Fargo, ND

What I liked

I liked that I was able to do my summer school homework on the clock as there was downtime in between flights. I liked the people that I got to meet. I liked getting to test out different vehicles.

What I wish was different

Management was very poor. The managers never cared about what would happen to their employees and/or customers after 3p.m. or on the weekends. They were not able to communicate effectively.

Advice

It's a great place to work if you want to get paid to do homework, but you have to put up with the management.

Store Clerk

July - September 2018 • Costa Mesa, CA

What I liked

I liked being able to learn how to pitch insurance sales, car rental sales, and even truck rental sales as well. I learned how to organize and manage the store's inventory, including cars, vehicle accessories (dolly's, furniture pads); according to the customer demand that fluctuates. Customer Service is a huge aspect of the job that I had to quickly adapt to, including learning how to respect customers' opinions yet correct their misinformation. I believe these skills gave me a huge amount of insight on how to properly run a retail store, at least from the experience I've had. In addition, the job helped me pay for expenses such as gas, food, car insurance, and also helped me saved up for a big purchase I always wanted. The work environment was very comfortable, including air conditioning with a good balance of physical and mental workload.

What I wish was different

The only downside to this particular job was location and office space. It took about half an hour to 35 minutes to commute to work from home, and the office was very small with a capacity to hold about 7 customers comfortably. Fortunately, the amount of patrons usually does not exceed the office capacity nor do patrons usually mind the small space.

Advice

I had no idea what to expect from taking this job, but as a young worker, always look toward the opportunity to seize knowledge you don't expect! It might teach you a life lesson or two!
