Honeywell

Mechanical Engineer Intern

May - August 2019 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

Honeywell possesses an amazing team to work with. The people at Honeywell truly want to be there and made my time there, a very enjoyable experience. I was treated as an employee not some lowly intern and did actual work that mattered. They took my experience in mind and assigned me challenging tasks that were meaningful and provided value for not only me, but had significant impact on projects.

What I wish was different

My experience was incredible but I have heard of others who were not as engaged as I was. However I worked in a smaller group and was not included in many of the larger intern events which excluded me from sharing in some Honeywell experiences. Not a big deal to me as I was there to work and display my skills in hope of earning a job in the future.

Advice

I have an extensive background in industry and was doing real world work that had significant impact on a particular project. I heard others were shuffling papers and kept on the back burner. Not everyone can have the same experience, but no matter what your experience is, do the best you can and create an environment where you will be missed. Display your skills confidently but keep your head down and do the job asked of you. The goal is a projected one... to secure a future. The goal is to get a job! You should be willing to do whatever is asked of you... Even stack boxes, at one point I was asked to do this and gladly got to stacking! Always be a team player!

Interning at Honeywell was amazing- tons of fun intern events, opportunities to learn, and amazing people.

What I wish was different

I had specifically hoped for more programming; the position was less programming-centric and more process focused.

Thermal Systems Project Engineering Intern

June - August 2017 • Torrance, CA

What I liked

Great employers, wonderful perks of being an intern (subsidized housing, etc.)

What I wish was different

More interesting work, but it had to do with the nature of my department. Other interns had much more technical work

Advice

Ask questions! And make sure that you actively seek out work to do.

System Engineer Intern

May - August 2017 • Glendale, AZ

What I liked

The intern projects that they gave us at Honeywell's defense and space department were amazing! They made sure to give all the intern groups a real job - working for contracts with NASA for example!! It felt so good to know that your work was going somewhere really important. The atmosphere of Glendale is so great too. All the employees are so excited to help interns and teach them new things. I had the best summer.

What I wish was different

I was hired on by the electrical department (even though I'm AEE), so my intern project wasn't exactly what I hope to do when I graduate, however they still accommodated me by giving me day-to-day JO's with a mechanical group. And either way I loved the opportunity to learn something new!!

Advice

Be friendly! Don't be shy - introduce yourself to everyone there! Even though they may seem like scary Engineer's who don't want to talk, they really love to share about their work and you will learn so much more this way!

Systems Engineer Intern

May - August 2019 • Clearwater, FL

What I liked

The networking opportunity. Being able to meet an assortment of managers in different engineering groups/teams and learning about what each team does and how they contribute to Honeywell, as a whole.

What I wish was different

I think this experience was exactly what I need to have happen at the end of my degree plan. I was taking only one class, online. This internship allowed me to network and, in turn, find myself a full time position with the company.

Advice

NETWORKING IS KEY! Don't waste your opportunity at an internship to meet people. Learning how to do a job is great, but if you only do that, and nothing else, the end of your internship will come and it won't have been as successful as you may think, unless you network, network, network. You may impress the team you're with and get an offer to come back, or go full time, but if you felt like it wasn't quite your fit... it's a missed opportunity if you didn't network.

Software Engineering Intern

May - July 2018 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

Being able to get hands on experience with a developing project as it matured alongside some of the industries' finest engineers.

What I wish was different

This was the first year they chose not to have the interns do a group project. I believe it would have enhanced my internship experience to be able to work on an intern project with other interns to the benefit of the company. It would have also been a great opportunity to network and share ideas.

Advice

Explore. Honeywell offers good mobility for their employees and an absurd amount of variety in their products. Seek out opportunities that interest you and ask questions. You never know what you may find!

Operations Intern

June - September 2018 • Redmond, WA

What I liked

The people were extremely helpful and friendly and made me feel like I was a part of the team. I felt like I was doing real work, not "intern" work. I also had the opportunity to get my Greenbelt certification.

What I wish was different

More cross-functional networking. I felt like I knew the people in our department well but not in other areas of the business.

Advice

My time was not very structured so make the most of it by offering help to coworkers and going above and beyond what people ask of you. Also, attend as many meetings and training as possible, even if it doesn't directly relate to what you are doing.

Control Systems Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

Great experience working in a large company. Gave me a great insight into the aerospace industry.

What I wish was different

Intern program is just like being a new full time employee. Not saying it's a bad thing but it would be nice to have intern projects.

Advice

Honeywell is a great company to work for. Its a steady cerrer path with lots of opportunities; they have been an industry leader but has since fallen behind from lack of innovation. Most interns get an offer at the end of the internship, the downside is that the offer is non-negotiable. I spent the summer showing my worth, why can't that reflect in my compensation? Overall a great experience, helped guide me in chosing my career path.

ASIC/FPGA Engineer Intern

May - August 2018 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

I like that Honeywell gives you real work that will be used in one way or another. They don't just make you do busy work or useless work. They also give you a Mentor which is extremely helpful when trying to get around, any questions you may have or help with any work you may have been assigned. They don't expect you to know everything at all but they do expect you to take the time and effort to learn while you're there. It is an awesome environment for an intern.

What I wish was different

I don't really wish anything to be different. Was one of the best experiences I've had so far.

Advice

Some advice would be to really take advantage of the situation you are put in. Put yourself out there and network with other people to start getting connections. Connections go a really long way. Honeywell preached this and it is very true.

Marketing / customer service

May - July 2019 • Asheville, NC

What I liked

I like the experience regarding SEO. I believe that a great part of marketing is in how customers look for you and your product and by SEO development you can have a more efficient way of search done by your customers regarding your product or services.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Advice

Use your resources. Handshake, College central and more have unlimited services that one can use. The availability of this is crucial since you are involved in every step and process towards obtaining an internship, job, etc. As you get a job or internship you can make connections which can be a really good thing once you graduate.

What I liked

I got a lot of really great experience as well as insight into what a future in corporate finance really looks like.

What I wish was different

Nothing, everything about the internship was great for me.

Advice

Take advantage of all the learning opportunities they provide and meet with as many people as you can. One of my favorite parts about this internship was the ability I had to talk with so many different people and just learn more about their story.
