Honeywell

Project Engineering Intern

June 2018 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

I liked learning about a new industry, and the workings of a big company.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given more to do - I often found myself being very bored.

Advice

Make sure that you like two of the following: the location, the people, and the job. I didn't enjoy the job very much, but I loved the location and the people and that made it a worthwhile experience.

Great group of people willing to take the time to train you like you are already part of the group.

I wish they were a little better about getting interns to make friends with each other.

Advice

The metal's lab was the best group of people I met at Honeywell. I'm unsure about other areas.

Software Engineer Int

May - August 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

My experience with Honeywell was fantastic. I gained valuable experience in the industry, working on real projects along the full-time employees and meeting brilliant people from around the world. I was working on full-stack web development tasks utilizing industry standard tools and frameworks. They had fun activities every month for the interns and various ways to get involved at the ATL office.

What I wish was different

I learned that the software engineering role is not for me, but again this was such valuable information.

Advice

I learned about Honeywell and their internship opportunities through the Grace Hopper Celebration for Women in Computing and for any women in tech I highly recommend attending!

Financial Analyst Intern

June - August 2019 • Fort Mill, SC

What I liked

I really enjoyed that they allowed us to work on meaningful projects throughout the course of the summer. We were not micromanaged and were granted responsibility and had to hold ourselves accountable.

What I wish was different

Admittedly, as nice as it was to not be micromanaged, I would have enjoyed additional time with my manager. It would have been nice to gain a greater understand of what they were doing in their role.

Advice

Make the most of it. Take it seriously and do everything that you can while you are there. A lot of these large companies want to extend full time offers. I ended up turning mine down for personal reasons, but to have been offered was wonderful nonetheless.

Finance Intern

June - August 2018 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

There was so much networking with individuals at the company. Everyone from peers a few years out of college up to the CEO and CFO. I worked on a project for the whole summer and at the end presented it to the executive. The CFO complimented my project and told me how much it would be used to benefit the company. It good to know that even as an intern I was making a difference!

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had more technical training in down time on applications currently used in business such as Tableau, SAP, etc to prepare me to begin full-time.

Advice

Do not be afraid to get out of your bubble. Sit at the big table with the executives even if you are just shadowing. It shows you want to be there and you are willing to make the effort. Managers will take notice.
