IQVIA

Clinical Research Associate

November 2021 - September 2022 • Myrtle Point, OR

What I liked

Good training, and very good policies on travel and especially per diems. It was also a very tight-knit community, at least within the IQVIA employees within the FSP I was assigned.

What I wish was different

The many redundancies in the particular FSP in which I was assigned; these made it hard to be as efficient as I wanted to be, and took time away from other tasks. I wish there was more support from management on employee suggestions, as well. Also, it would have been nice if I was given the referral bonus I was told I'd get for referring two great employees they ended up hiring. In the end, they didn't give it to me for either, and when pressed said "look at the policy, number 6" or something; that number said something along the line of they could deny it based on business needs/purposes. Purposefully vague?

Advice

It fit the bill of "accept, don't expect"; just keep doing your best and don't get cynical or expect others to live up to your standards and it's a decent-enough experience with decent pay relative to many biosciences jobs.

Consulting Intern

June - July 2018 • Istanbul, Turkey

What I liked

Learning the stages behind consulting and how consultants start from a bigger question and then go down into the details, gather data, and then go back to the bigger question. I find the fragmentation of a question in order to study it is a very different approach which I started to implement in my daily decision making as well.

What I wish was different

Summer wasn’t a very busy season for the company I interned for so I wish there were more ongoing projects.

Advice

Create your own opportunities. Ask people what they are doing. Ask if you can help them. Ask if they can chat to you about their job. An internship is a learning opportuntity given to you and try to get as many things out of it.

Software Engineer

June - August 2018 • Plymouth Meeting, PA

What I liked

The schedule is pretty well, as long as you can finish your work. You can also work from home if you are up to something else that day.

What I wish was different

I started off with one week and half just reading books and others code, which I think is kind of unnecessary.

Advice

Definitely a boost to future career, and a good practice of talking to your mentors.
