What I liked

This was my first job, and I was glad I took the opportunity to work for my location. It helped me in ways I didn't know I needed to improve. First, It helped me communicate with other people better as I was in charge of taking orders and making sure the customers were satisfied. Secondly, this job helped build discipline as I was time managing my school and work. Lastly, this job helped because they were flexible with my school, allowing me to put school first.

What I wish was different

Speaking of experience, there is nothing that I would change working here. The managers were great and the employees were great.

Advice

Life is unpredictable but if one thing this job has taught me is that you always have to be on your toes, make sure life doesn't make a fool out of you. With that said, don't let people moods affect your day, and always keep a positive attitude

Floor Supervisor

January 2018 - September 2020 • Alvarado, TX

What I liked

The leadership skills gained from being a manager over the Summer changed my personality for the better. I am now able to look at the job world in a different way. Some people don't believe in the potential of McDonald's, but in all honesty, it changed me. Without this opportunity at a young age, I would not think the same. I have learned skills ranging from Customer Service, to being a team player. In my job field, Computer Science, all of the base skills I have learned from working at McDonald's, I will have a better career path. I believe McDonald's is a great opportunity for students needing a job for both pay and benefits to your future.

What I wish was different

The only problems I honestly had was being short-handed on some shifts, but that is to be expected.

Advice

If you are in need of a job, take a chance, don't be afraid to say you work for the company. You will find the benefits and discover that it was well-worth the opportunity to work around customers and a team. Your future will shine brighter.

What I liked

Working with my bestfriend

What I wish was different

Supervisors barely work...which means that a lot of managers follow in their footsteps. Simple tasks that they are too lazy to do themselves. Nobody ever likes doing frontline or bringing or trays in lobby. Customers can be nasty and claim they are missing food when they aren’t

Advice

Don’t work fast food

What I liked

What I liked is how inviting everyone was and how willing to help they were. Also I enjoyed the flexibility of my schedule due to me having other military obligations that could arise at any time.

What I wish was different

What I wish had been different would be me burning my fingers a few times. it wasn’t all that bad I got used to it but for the most part working for McDonalds was a humbling experience for me to understand what it is truly like being on the other end or the other side of the situation.

Advice

One piece of advice I might share is to always be humble and learn from your experience be willing and open to expand your knowledge you never know what opportunities may avail themselves to you afterwards.

Finance Intern

May - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I loved this internship! I had the opportunity to do a lot of real, entry-level work. The people there were very friendly and always willing to tell me about their own experiences and help me learn. I also got to spend time talking with people in high-up leadership positions, including the Controller and CFO.

What I wish was different

Advice

Talk to as many people about what they do as you can! Pretty much everyone has a different role, and it's cool to see how those roles relate to each other and to learn what different people do. The people are a great resource for getting advice.

Manager-in-training

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

When being in a management position, the best thing that one can do is to go with the flow. There will be plenty of days when crew members do not show up, or call-in, and the place gets very busy because you do not have the people. While this is frustrating, there is not much that can be done to fix it, so the best thing to do then is to take the crew that you have, and work with what you have, and try not to take things personally when customers are upset because they are not getting their food, or when the crew is upset because they are so busy.

The McDonald's team is like a family. Everyone was kind and worked together very well. I will value the friendships I made there for a long time to come!

What I wish was different

Applied to jobs early and often

Advice

Apply to jobs early and often. Don't wait around 'til the end of a semester to realize you're too busy with finals to start applying. Give yourself breathing room and get it done throughout the semester.
