Dynamic Stress Intern

June - August 2018 • Ridley Park, PA

What I liked

Overall great experience. Learned a lot, found it easy to network as there are many social events. Enjoyed learning about the company itself, in addition to aerospace standard part stress analysis. Looks like a great place to work; world class compensation and benefits, great culture, engaging co-workers. Hope I get that return offer.

What I wish was different

Wish my position had had more hands on tasks associate with it. Turns out a desk is not my ideal environment.

Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

It was an amazing experience, I enjoyed working on a real project related to my major and making some good money as well. Additionally, beyond the job, it was so much fun to spend a summer in Seattle with a bunch of similarly-minded other interns

What I wish was different

It took a little longer than expected to hear back from Boeing than I expected and once I did, the process had to be rushed a little.

Advice

Be persistent, I had to follow up with Boeing 3 or 4 times before getting my offer. Also, in hindsight, I wish I had gotten the name/contact of the person who interviewed me at the career fair. That would have made it much easier to follow up.

Structural and Mechanical Engineer

May - August 2017 • El Segundo, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed learning about mechanical design and analysis that was specific to aerospace. I designed my own additively manufactured titanium bracket and completed the analysis on it. I learned how to make an engineering drawing for my design and met with suppliers to discuss the producibility. It was a very rewarding and challenging summer internship.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time that summer to do and learn more. I was excited to be given an opportunity to return as a full-time employee.

Advice

As an intern, I think I got the most out of my experience by not being afraid to ask questions. I absorbed as much information as I could in the short time that I was there, and it definitely paid off in the end.

Flight Test Engineering Operations Intern

May - August 2018 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

My favorite part about my internship was the fact that I got to go on 9 on-board test flights on the Boeing 737 Max 7 and I got to write a flight test plan and execute it. I also liked that Boeing offered the interns tours of the different facilities, which allowed us to network with different people and get a feel of all the different job positions at Boeing. Additionally, my team gave me the responsibility to lead an experiment that would help determine an optimized mixture and method of application of a witnessing medium used in APU and Nacelle Drainages to further reduce time and cost of future flight tests. Lastly, my team gave me the freedom to work for another group, which I ended up doing my second half of my internship with Stability and Control Flight Test Engineering Analysis.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was longer so I could've gotten the opportunity to take on more responsibility and grasp things better.

Advice

The main advice that I would share about my experience is to be proactive and go out of your way to find work instead of waiting for people to hand it to you. Also, attitude in the work place is very important. Having a positive energy, being driven, having enthusiasm, and the thirst to learn is what helped me accomplish so many things in such little time during my time at Boeing.

What I liked

I was assigned deadlines, deliveries, and treated like an actual employee. I did hands-on work and applied concepts from my classes to perform in my position. I also loved that interns at Boeing were allowed special tours inside the factories in Everett and Renton.

What I wish was different

Nothing! I loved my internship.
