Lean Manufacturing COE Intern

May - August 2022 • Hershey, PA

What I liked

Employee store at the corporate office and each plant with merchandise and very reduced price products Traveled to multiple plant locations on various assignments, received tour plants Modern corporate office with celebrations/events held for employees often Free gourmet pizza on Wednesdays Came home smelling like chocolate, peanut butter, and/or KitKat wafer after visiting plant locations Large bowls of chocolate and non-chocolate items in every room Sampled fresh products on-site and participated in taste testing

What I wish was different

Summer internship did not align with Supply Chain Co-ops, so no large intern group projects

Advice

If you get the chance to take on a project at a plant, take it and make sure to stop at the employee store!

Category Strategy and Insights Intern

April - December 2019 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

The office is welcoming, personable, and awesome- and the work was challenging but fulfilling! I learned a whole lot about the CPG industry as a whole, as well as where my skills and ideas came into play. I was given autonomy most of the time, but had a great team to work with too.

What I wish was different

I wish the intern training had been a little more extensive / organized! I also wish the office set up looked and felt a little bit more welcoming (although nothing is wrong with it- this is just my preference!)

Advice

Ask a million questions, each and every one you have. Bring a confident, can-do attitude to work, make time to get to know the people around you, and Hershey will make an investment in you!

Mechanical Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Hershey, PA

What I liked

I loved the dynamic nature of the work; each day brought new challenges and new people to work with. I learned so much about manufacturing and the chocolate was simply an added bonus!

What I wish was different

I was the only intern at the Plant which was a little isolating, but it also pushed me outside my comfort zone and gave me confidence in what I could do.

Advice

Take risks! Manufacturing is not something I thought I would be interested in, but it turned out there was a lot of assumptions that I had that were not true, and I also enjoyed learning about industrial technology. I learned so much about all the steps that go into bringing one bag of Hershey Kisses to the stores.
