USI Insurance Services

Health and Benefits Consulting Intern

June - August 2020 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

The support staff is fantastic. Recruiters were always available on their personal phones to answer questions and were a huge help in settling logistics about summer relocation. The executive took time to meet with us, which is rare in large companies and shows how much they value new talent and are committed to development.

What I wish was different

I wish we would have been able to be on site. We completed the internship remotely due to COVID-19, which was disappointing because they have beautiful offices. They did a great job accommodating the switch, however, and really had no problems making the experience just as engaging and valuable.

Advice

I would advise having a working knowledge of commercial insurance and relevant US policy. You can go in without experience and learn it all, but those that stand out are able to problem solve and answer questions about both. Specifically, things like employee benefits decisions driven by US healthcare policy and how the markets affect property and casualty premiums would be invaluable to standing out among the other interns.

Advice

An internship gives you a better idea of what you want and don’t be want in a career.
