What I liked

I like my manager Ashley and her team at Verisk, feeling supported and never lost or puzzled during your internship. I will describe my manager as responsible, proactive, and encouraging, and I appreciated the personal connection I had with her, discussing both work and daily life.

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to recognize the value of working in a company like Verisk, where a supportive environment and a collaborative team can significantly enhance your learning and growth. What I liked

The company put a lot of effort on this internship program! There are many activities for engagement with senior leaders, full-time employees and interns, together with fun activities and learning opportunities. I had a chance to work in an impactful NLP project with a great manager and teammates. People here are so nice and supportive. I also like the work-life balance here very much!

What I wish was different

Maybe there is a mentor during the internship. But actually my manager already gave me a lot of valuable advice!

What I liked

I like everything here. The hr team was super professional. My team members were nice and friendly. My manager and leader are supportive. The project I worked on was interesting but with so many opportunities to learn. It was a meaningful summer with full of leaning here.

One piece of advice I would share will be asking feedback. After each meeting, asking your manager and leaders’ feedback. Working on those feedback is critical to improve yourself. The purpose of internship is about learning. Other’s feedback is the best place to learn.

Software Developer Intern

What I liked

The Recruiting team did an amazing job at giving us interns the best possible experience, from weekly intern events, to panels/in-person events with Presidents of different sections of the company (including the CEO), and to providing all the necessary information to succeed during our internship. Everyone at Verisk was very friendly creating a great office culture. In terms of technical experience, I got to work on different projects and smaller tasks relating to cloud services, cloud databases (DynamoDB, Postgres), writing Python scripts, using Git/GitLab, some UI designs, and using various data manipulation software services. I loved the hands-on experience I gained throughout and I was able to learn how certain pipelines are handled/run. My manager was also amazing, providing feedback, clear tasks, and assistance throughout. Lastly, the JC office is also lovely.

What I wish was different

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Take advantage of LinkedIn learning when you aren't working on tasks. Take advantage of resources provided to you by the Verisk team. Have fun!

Data Engineer Intern

What I liked

The people and culture at this company are fantastic. There's a lot of talent here, so you get to learn a lot from very smart colleagues. The projects you work on are impactful and make a real difference. Although the internship is only 10 weeks, the learning curve is steep and incredibly valuable. The HR team is great at organizing weekly events where you can interact with both interns and employees, which helps in building connections. All interns get a chance to meet the CEO in person and participate in calls with leadership, learning from their experiences. The days fly by, and you'll find yourself missing the experience once it's over. The HR team is very active and always available to address any questions you may have. It's truly the best place to work.

Actuarial Intern

What I liked

I liked a lot! Everyone at Verisk is very friendly from fellow interns to coworkers on your team to anyone in the building. I liked the intern programming each week as well as the LinkedIn learning resources. As an actuarial student, it was an interesting perspective into the insurance industry and how data is utilized by actuaries.

What I wish was different

I had numerous smaller projects leaving some days with no tasks, so I wish I had either more tasks or a bigger project to work on consistently. However, that varies by team and many other actuarial interns did have consistent projects.

Advice

Connect with the higher-ups in the company that you will meet at intern events on LinkedIn, and set up times for coffee chats with them.

What I liked

My summer internship in The Advanced Science and Technology Division of Verisk - Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER) has been nothing short of an amazing, memorable and an enriching experience. Contributing to the projects under the guidance and mentorship of experienced individuals and colleagues has surely shaped an exponential curve on my knowledge and learning throughout the internship program. I am deeply appreciative of this amazing internship opportunity at Verisk.

Advice

Be inquisitive and keep asking questions. No questions are dumb questions, so ask for help whenever you are stuck. That helps in making steady and consistent progress in work. Colleagues at Verisk are very approachable and will surely give you their time if you ask for it. Making full use of the networking events to grow your personal brand is surely a great idea. The internship program is a perfect blend of innovative projects and fun time, so make sure that you make full use of it.

What I liked

The culture at Verisk is incredible. Every person I've interacted with is so friendly and willing to help an intern out. Working hybrid was also a fun, interesting experience. Being able to balance fun days in the office networking with other interns and coworkers with heads-down days at home made it easier to balance the fun and the work of my experience. The company also made me feel really welcome and valued in my project. Instead of having an intern specific project, I worked directly with my team consistently, helping them take care of pending work as if I was a full-time employee. I could see the impact I was having and really got to experience what it's like working full time.

What I wish was different

Advice

Put yourself out there! Ask questions, talk to people, and contribute whatever you can. The time goes by so quickly so don't wait until the right moment to make yourself known. It makes the experience so much more fun and exciting, and leaves an impression on those around you (which can come in handy in the future).

What I liked

I loved my internship at Verisk because I had the opportunity to meet and learn from so many great people. The culture at the company is amazing, and I felt welcome from day one. My favorite parts of the program were the fireside chats with the executive team because they were so approachable and willing to share their knowledge so that we would have the best internship experience possible.

I wish I would have taken advantage of more of the learning opportunities that the company provided through LinkedIn Learning and other internal sites.

What I liked

My manager and team were very accommodating towards me and always ensured that I had the appropriate amount of time, guidance, and resources to both assist with company initiatives and progress my own personal development.

What I wish was different

I would have enjoyed working on a cross-departmental project or assignment with interns from other areas in the company. As the lone intern on my team, I didn't have many collaboration opportunities with other interns; on the other hand, however, the Intern Experience team did a great job of scheduling in-person networking and casual interaction opportunities for us interns to get to know each other.

Advice

If you intern at Verisk, I strongly urge you to make full use of all the many resources the program offers. Get to know the different applications available to you on Okta. Pick up a skill or two (or five), such as basic coding, advanced PowerPoint practices, or Lean Six Sigma certification—even if your job description doesn’t require it—on LinkedIn Learning or the company’s internal learning modules. Spend as much time with colleagues and other interns when in the office. Participate in fireside chats and networking events. Ask to speak (or even shadow) someone in another department for a day. As such a large, progressive, and inclusive company, Verisk provides you with everything you need to achieve success—now go and get it!
