Weill Cornell Medicine

What I liked

Very involved and interactive program, students are exposed to a lot of surgical procedures and interaction with physicians.

What I wish was different

A bit more organization on the side of the program directors.

Advice

I would recommend this to any pre-medical student, and advise them to get in contact with as many physicians as possible and ask as many questions as possible.

What I liked

I enjoyed the opportunity to shadow a clinical nutritionist who worked specifically with people in the GI unit of Weill Cornell. Most of her patients were coming in for issues relating to IBD. I was also given work to do while waiting between patients that included doing research on different nutrition plans for patients as well as research on the diseases the patients were struggling with. This opportunity gave me a great view into a clinical side of nutrition I hadn’t encountered before. I was also able to ask questions that furthered my knowledge.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had a longer period of time to work with the nutritionist.

Advice

The advice I would share with someone looking into this experience is to be prepared everyday with good questions and do extra work outside of the time you spend in the hospital to show your interest. The better understanding you have of IBD, the more you can gain from listening to what the nutritionist suggests.
